The performance of the most promising varieties in final stages of selection is briefly reviewd. M1176/77 and M261/78 are performing well in dry conditions. M554/79 ripens early in the season and is adapted to humid conditions. M2769/79 is better adapted to the humid and subhumid zones. M2350/79 is high yielding and rich and is better adapted to the superhumid zone. M2077/78 and Q96 have performed poorly and have been discarded. The rich, early maturing and high yielding M52/78 confirmed its great potential for exploitation in the superhumid areas early in the harvesting season. It has thus been recommended for commercial exploitation. M1658/78 has confirmed its high yields and high sucrose and excellent performance in the humid and superhumid zones. The recommandations for planting cane varieties in different soil types and harvesting at different dates were updated in the light of additional information gathered during the year. | |
