The phenomenal growth of communication technology in recent years has given an increasingly prominent place to the use of mass media in development strategies. Sugar cane growers of the eastern sector of Mauritius were categorised according to size of holdings and interviewed about their perception of the different media used for conveying information on sugar cane cultivation and the perspectives of exploring new means of communication. Access to information was found to be related to scale operation. A series of improvements to existing extension delivery systems were suggested. Overall, television was rated as the most appropriate medium for disseminating information to growers and should be considered. | |
