Polaris and Polado ripeners increased sucrose content and juice purity of cane infected with yellow spot disease. Canes in which the disease was controlled by weekly sprays of Benomyl fungicide responded better. For industrial application, the ripeners significantly increase sucrose content of cane when disease pressure is low but a properly timed application of fungicide, followed by a combined application of fungicide and ripener, would improve response when the disease incidence is severe. | |
