The recrudescence of Pulvinaria iceryi on sugar cane in 1976-77, which caused heavy losses in the 1977 crop and necessitated the replanting of many fields, is described. The history of the insect in the Mascarenes is recalled and an account is given of the salient features of its biology, while natural enemies and host-plants are listed. The influence of cane varieties on the distribution of attacks in 1976-77 and ocntrol measures are discussed. | |
