In this country report, mention is made of the major problems in relation to varietal requirements. They include the high cost of imported seeds, the poor physiological condition of local seeds when planted int he second season, the lack of varieties for early planting and the susceptibility to bacterial wilt disease of commercial va rieties. These commercial varieties are all of foreign origin. Clones from the International Potato Centre have been tested, but to date, none has been found suitable. In spite of their resistance to bacterial wilt the clones have not been superior in yield to the commercial varieties. | |
