Samples of final molasses were collected from nineteen sugar factories during the 1990 and 1991 campaigns, and were analysed for Brix, sucrose, reducing sugars and sulfated ash. Examination of the data for simple linear regressions and multiple-linear regressions involving non-sucrose and non-sugar components led to the development of a new reference purity equation : 36.82 + 157 R/NSe - 3.72 R/log A, where R= reducing sugars; NSe = non-sucrose, = dry matter- sucrose, = 0.82` Brix + 9.65 - sucrose; A= sulfated ash. The new formula gives a better indication of actual molasses exhaustion than the equation than the equation derived in 1968 viz reference purity = 44.6 - 4R/A. | |
