The development of a data acquisition and visualisation system, based onyears of experience gained in the sugar industry and on observations of the shortcomings in the existing system, is described. The software has been written in C and Labwindows, which is a User Interface development tool from National Instruments Corporation. Data collection from sensors is done by a Process Data Monitoring Station from Esters Elektronik, connected to the serial port of a PC. The introduction of different types of virtual channels enables the system to be easily adapted to almost any individual setup without any modifications to the source code. The integration of a powerful data processing technique has made data presentation and interpretation much easier. The new system is specially suited for industries that use steam extensively. | |
