For the assessment of sugar factory performance, the mass of the main products namely, cane, imbibition water, mixed juice, bagasse, molasses and sugar must be measured and the constituents such as Brix, pol, sucrose, reducing sugars and moisture determined. Errors in the mass measurement of the products and in the analysis of the constituents can lead to recorded fictitious physical loss or gain. This paper deals with the measures to be taken to minimize errors in massing and analysis of the products for constituents mentioned above. Under the most unfavourable circumstances, a + 0.1 per cent error both in massing and analysis can lead to a fictitious undetermined sucrose gain or loss of about 0.05 per cent cane. | |
