Many problems are met in the field and in the sugar factory when cane cutting and loading are mechanized. In most cases, subsoiling has been found unnecessary because it does not improve yield. Mechanized planting with whole stalk and billet planters needs to be improved before being adopted on a large scale. Cane loss is inevitable with harvesters, but it is higher in green than in burnt cane and varies also with the cane variety. Mechanical earthing-up of interline potato can be done when the plants have reached an average height of 10 cm. | |
