The availability of good quality seed of appropriate varieties is one of the most important requisites for improving potato productivity in the warm tropics. For a long time developing countries in the warm tropics have relied on seeds imported at high cost from the more developed countries, and it was generally accepted that seed production in the warm tropics are discussed in this paper, including diseases and their epidemiology, variety adaptation and seed storage. In the light of the various technical and economic considerations, and with due regard to local resources, different options exist. Very high quality seed can now be produced with confidence in the warm tropics with the adoption of the most refined techniques. | |
