Four methods for determining sucrose in molasses were compared. These were the Double Polarization method of Jackson and Gillis No. IV, the AOAC chemical method, the Sugar Research Institute (Mackay) Acid Inversion method, and the Canadian National COmmittee method. Statistical analysis of the results showed the Double Polarization method to be the most reliable and it was concluded that it would be against the interests of all concerned to abandon it. | |
