M 447/67 is well adapted to the humid and sub-humid zones of Mauritius. It is a relatively high yielding variety with high sucrose content at mid and late harvests. It has low sucrose early in the season but increases rapidly thereafter to reach a high level late in the season. It is recommended in H, L and P soils for harvest as from the mid-season. M 447/67 is slightly susceptible to smut, susceptible to rust, highly susceptible to yellow spot, and resistant to gumming. M 1030/71 is a high yielding sugar cane variety with high sucrose content. It performs well in all climatic conditions of the island but its susceptibility to rust disease precludes its propagation in humid and superhumid areas. It is resistant to gumming and yellow-spot diseases and slightly susceptible to smut. It can be harvested throughout the harvest period. | |
