Three cutting methods were compared in sugar cane grown in wet and dry areas of Mauritius. Yield of most varieties was depressed by stubble shaving in wet areas. In dry areas where cutting methods and burning were tested, only one variety was adversely affected by burning and stubble shaving but not by the cutting method in green cane. In both wet and dry areas the cutting method and burning had no effect on sucrose content, irrespective of cane variety. | |
