A mathematical model to stimulate the performance of a cooling crystallizer was developed from (i) material balance, (ii) crystal population balance, (iii) solubility data and (iv) growth rate data. The results of simulations to study the effect of operating variables, e.g. residence time, cooling rate, Brix of massecuite, crystal size and distribution, on crustallizer performance are described. | |
