Five species of Ricaniidae from Mauritius are described or redescribed. They are Trysanor cicatricosus spec. nov., gen. nov., Tarundia servillei (Spinola), T. cintipennis Stal, T. marginata Melichar and Privesa laevifrons (Stal). T. clara Synave is synonymised with T. servillei, T. mameti Synave with T. cinctipennis, and P. vinsoni Synave with P. laevifrons. The characters of the three Mauritian Tarundia species that appear to be of generic value are indicated. It is considered that the type locality of T. cinctipennnis - Sierra Leone - was given in error and that the species is probably confined to the Mascarenes. The considerable variation in some of the species is described. All are confined in Mauritius to indigenous vegetation. | |
