Electrophoresis on polyacrylamide gel and starch was used to study enzymatic diversity in sugar cane varieties from Mauritius. THe polymorphism revealed in 7 enzymes enabled unambiguous identification of each variety in a group of some 30 clones. These clones represent the common varieties as well as promising clones. Genetic protein imprints were made. The clones of Mauritius are compared to varieties grown on large plantations in major sugar cane producing countries. | |
