The eradication of old cane stubble poses a major problem for establishing new cane plantations and interrow cropping. Presently, satisfactory results are obtained with a minimum of five passes of light and heavy disc harrows, which is a costly procedure. In the search for more cost-effective techniques, a series of trials were conducted to determine the effectiveness of several combinations of implement passes. Results have shown that the rotary hoe is the best stubble eradicator, however, its use is restricted to stone-free soils because of possible blade damage. | |
