Following the introduction in Mauritius of chopper harvesters capable of working in burnt as well as in unburnt cane fields, a comparative study of deterioration rate of burnt and unburnt chopper harvested cane has been carried out. Burnt cane was found to deteriorate faster as evidenced by an increased of dextran, and glucose : sucrose ratio. | |
