In view of the importance of potassium (K) in sugarcane production, a study was initiated to broaden current understanding of the K in the soils of Mauritius. Water soluble, exchangeable and non-exchangeable K as well as the 0.1 M H2SO4 extractible K (extraction in 0.1 M H2SO4 is used to give a measure of long term K availability in soils of Mauritius) were determinedbefore and after fertilization with 1.25 g K per kg soil (equivalent to 350 kg KCL per ha) in 73 soils under sugarcane in Mauritius. The rate of K release with time was also studied in the soils receiving the added KCl. The results | |
