A study of the root systems of two sugar cane varieties, M 147/44 and Ebène 1/37, growing in different localities is described. The dry weight of total roots was adopted as the criterion of root development. By taking the log percentage mean root dry weight below each soil layer, significant differences not apparent before were found to exist. All pairs of regression lines except that obtained for the variety M 147/44 grown at Pamplemousses and Magenta and that for Ebène 1/37 grown at Belle Rive and Union Park were significantly different. | |
