Five generic combinations comprising 435 seedlings were planted singly in the field. These were evaluated according to well established criteria by three selectors at two different dates. From the results obtained, it was found that selection varied with selectors and from one date of evaluation to another. The rate of selection obtained by the three selectors A, B, and C were 34.4 per cent, 70.4 per cent and 92.6 per cent at date one and 78.6 per cent, 56.3 per cent and 92.6 per cent at date two, respectively. Coincidence indices showed that the degree of agreement between a pair of selectors changed from one date of selection to another and that it varied from one pair of selectors to another. In order to minimize subjectivity to a significant level in favour ofmore consistent results, it is recommended that selection at this stage should not be stringent, selectors should be adequately trained and emphasis should not be laid on too many characters except diameter which should be the main criterion. | |
