The dynamic characteristics of a single effect evaporator are studied both with and without calandria steam pressure control. Two models are derived in each case, the first a linear model in which all deviations of the variables must be small if the model is to be valid, the second a non-linear model allowing for large variations on some of the variables, particularly those depending on valve positions, whilst the variation on other variables such as product density remain small. Using these models the behaviour of the evaporator under various control schemes is studied, as well as the effects of throttling the steam valve upon the time constants of the evaporator. | |
