Abstract (AB)Major technical and financial features of drip irrigation are reviewed. Prospect of adoption of such systems by small holders are then assessed in the light of findings of a research station experiment in Mauritius. Possible problems that may hinder successful adoption are discussed. A set of conditions for successful transfer of drip technology is then proposed as well as policy measures for ensuring the financial viability of small drip irrigated farming systems.
