Abstract (AB)Two sugar cane varieties, M 1551/80 and R 575, have been released for commercial cultivation in Mauritius in 1997. Both varieties are adapted to low altitude and low rainfall regions, give good cane yields and have above average sucrose content particularly early in the harvest season. Whereas M 1551/80 is better adapted to the suvhumid environment, in L and P soils, the cultivation of R 575 can be extended to the more humid environments. Both varieties are recommended for harvesting early (July/August) to mid-season (September).
