Abstract (AB)Evolution of sucrose per cent cane was compared for the two periods 1955-1959 and 1976-1982 respectively. Sucrose per cent cane was lower for the later period as well as its rate of increase from early to mid-harvest. The dominant factors responsible for these differences are climatic conditions and presence in maturity behaviour and intrinsic sucrose content are not responsible for the observed differences.
