Abstract (AB)Three sugarcane varieties M 1394/86, M 1400/86 and R 579 have been released for commercial cultivation in Mauritius in early 2000. M 1394/86 is a high yielding variety with average sucrose content. M 1400/86 is adapted to a wide range of environments; it has high cane and sugar yields as well as good sucrose content in mid and late-seasons. R579 is adapted to the deep soils of the superhumid suited for mid- and late-season harvests. However, as its reaction to yellow spot disease is still being evaluated, it is provisionally recommended for cultivation only in H and L2 soils.
