Abstract (AB)In order to be more competitive, the cane sugar industry will have to improve productivity per unit manpower, area and cost. To meet these objectives, it will have to be technology-intensive. The paper deals with some aspects of biotechnology, irrigation, fertilizer management, GIS and remote sensing for land resources management, integrated pest management, and minimum tillage, with due regard to environmental protection.
