Abstract (AB)The 1976 season started earlier and closed later than usual. The Industry as a whole lost 4,01 hours per day due to shortage of cane at the mills. Excessive temperatures and rainfall during the maturation period contributed to a record cane production but to subnormal cane quality. The performance of particular factories is discussed in relation to newly installed equipment or to changes in the mode of operation of existing plants. Specifications of newly installed equipment for cane handling, cane preparation, mud filtration, juice evaporation and pan boiling are given.
