Abstract (AB)The effect of degree of rockiness (percentage soil greater than 2mm in size) upon the amount of K available to sugarcane was investigated in three Latosolic Reddish Prairie (LRP) soils differing in rockiness. The results showed that by not considering the amount of K in the greater than 2mm soil and analysing only the less than 2mm soil, we are in fact overestimating the real amount of K found in the soil. Hence correction factors to account for the degree of rockiness were determined and applied to the soil K values of the three sites as well as in selected PSUs found within each soil group. Comparison of the corrected soil K and leaf K value however showed that the correlation between these two parameters was improved in certain sites only.
