Abstract (AB)The increased costs of overhead irrigation of sugar cane in Mauritius provides an incentive for adopting the more efficient drip irrigation practices. The necessary preliminary research to evaluate the possibilities of drip irrigation under local conditions is being undertaken jointly by the Mauritius Sugar Industry Research Institute and the Institute of Hydrology, UK and the results of irrigation regime, irrigation rates and dripline placement on the plant cane yield of three sugar cane cultivars are presented.
