Abstract (AB)The importance of Cyperus rotundus as a serious weed competitor to crops has brought about the necessity of having various herbicide treatments to cope with it in different situations. The best treatment, to date, in absence or in pre-emergence of crops is a post-emergence spray of glyphosate at 1 kg a.e./ha. However, during the rainy season, it is sometimes difficult to get a dry period of about 6 to 8 hours after spraying. Also, the minimum interval between spraying and tillage has not been precisely determined. Trials described in this paper have shown that glyphosate was very quickly absorbed by C. rotundus and that even a dry period as short as one hour was sufficient for adequate weed control. Althouth satisfactory control was obtained when spraying was followed by tillage 24 hourss later, better results were achieved when the interval was lengthened to one week; longer intervals did not substantially increase the level of weed control.
