Abstract (AB)M 1658/78 is adapted to all the agroclimatic zones of Mauritius but is more suitable to the humid and superhumid regions. Its cane and sugar yield and its sucrose content are quire high. It can be harvested throughout the season. It is resistant to gumming, rust and leaf scald, slightly susceptible to yellow spot and susceptible to smut.
