| The sugarcane variety M 1557/70 was released in January 1986. This variety has very high cane and sugar yields but average sucrose content. It is better adapted to lower rainfall areas. M 1557/70 is resistant to gumming and smut diseases. It is susceptible to yellow spot and should not be planted at high altitude and in high rainfall areas in B, F and H soils. It is recommended for middle to late harvest in all soil types, and for earlier harvest in B, H, L and P soils. | |
