Abstract (AB)A trial was initiated to compare drip and surface irrigations in sugarcane and to determine the influence of different spacings of cane rows and dripper lines. Five treatments were compared : (1) No irrigation; (2) One dripper line along every cane row; (3) One dripper line in every other interrow; (4) One dripper line in every smaller interrow with cane rows spaced at 0,97 m and 2,26 m alternately and (5) Surface irrigation. Cane rows for all treatments other than (4) were spaced at 1,62 m. Results for the first and second ratoons are presented. All the drip treatments gave significantly higher cane and sugar yields per ha than the surface irrigated treatment, while the unirrigated treatment gave the poorest yields. Treatments 2 and 4 were better than treatment 3 and treatment 2 showed slightly higher values.
