Abstract (AB)A thresher designed to deglume the caryopses of sugarcane is described. Its use enables the sowing of seeds from viable crosses, rather than the sowing of fuzz, and with pre-sowing germination tests the required number of seedlings may be obtained by sowing a given quantity of seeds. The technique results in a saving of about 75 per cent in labour, time and space during greenhouse sowings. Its other advantages, including greater ease of storing seeds, are enumerated.
