Abstract (AB)Processing difficulties were encountered owing to excess soil introduced in the raw juice as a result of mechanized cane loading operations. In order to minimize these difficulties it was necessary to resort to cane washing. Sucrose losses and effects on factory control figures, attributable to cane washing were studied. Experimental results obtained during the 1977 and 1978 crops showed that cane washing minimized processing difficulties. At the same time however, a certain amount of sugar was lost in the process.
