Abstract (AB)A reliable and practical bioassay for bacterial wilt (Pseudomonas solanacearum) in soil is described. Susceptible tomato plants are grown in pots with contaminated soil maintained at a high moisture level ranging from field capacity at the top of the pots to saturation at the bottom. A good correlation was obtained between survival rate of tomato plants and wilt incidence in the potato fields where soil samples were collected.
