Abstract (AB)Field trials were repeated over three consecutive years to assess the benefits of delaying N fertilization of plant cane until 2 months after planting. The data obtained showed that sugar and cane yields as well as N recovered by plant cane when 120 kg N/ha were applied in the furrows at planting were comparable to those found when the N was surface-banded along the rows 2 months later. This observation implies that fertilizer management of plant cane may be simplified by applying complete fertilizers in the furrows at planting to supply all the NPK needs of plant cane.
