Abstract (AB)To improve potassium (K) fertilizer management of sugar cane in Mauritius, field experiments were initiated to study K nutrition and yield response of the sugar cane to split K application in soils were rainfall exceeds 3000 mm/year and to K broadcasted in soils where rainfall is lower than 2000 mm/year. The results obtained showed that a shift from the present practice of surface banding of K in ratoons to split or broadcast applications is not warranted. Splitting or broadcasting the K did not increase yield or K fertilizer efficiency use by sugar cane.
