Abstract (AB)Although the application of biotechnology to sugarcane is comparatively recent, progress is already beingmade in various fields. Current studies are focused on genome mapping, marker-assisted selection, metabolic pathways analysis, genetic transformation, molecular disease diagnosis, tissue culture as well as the conversion of sugarcane co-products into useful compounds. Progress achieved in the various fields is reviewed.
