Abstract (AB)The white grub Hoplochelus marginalis was reported for the first time in 1981 in Réunion Island. Strict quarantine measures have been taken to prevent entry of this pest into Mauritius. These include rescheduling of aircraft flights and movement of ships between the two islands during the active flight period of the adult beetles; chemical treatment around the airport and public awareness campaigns. These measures have been successful as the grub has not been detected in light trappings or soil samplings carried out every year. On several occasions, adult beetles have been intercepted on board aircraft or ships.
