Abstract (AB)Metarhizium anisopliae and Paecilomyces sp. were detected on the major sugar cane insect pests occurring in Mauritius. Sensitivity of two isolates of Metarhizium anisopliae Metsch. to three fungicides (metalaxyl, benomyl and mancozeb) and three insecticides (cyromazine, deltamethrin and methamidophos) was investigated in-vitro on liquid and solid media. The three fungicides completely suppressed radial growth of one isolate while metalaxyl permitted slight radial growth of the other. The insecticides tested had no marked effect on the growth of the isolates. Dry mycelial weight was three to more than ten times greater in the insecticide-treated media and in the control than in the fungicide-treated media.
