The lack of information on tractor-implement performance in actual working conditions has led to the development of a field data measuring and recording system by the CEEMAT (Research Centre for Agricultural Engineering and Food Technology). Data collected are utilized to determine the distribution of power between the tractor's engine and drawbar. The various power losses are calculated from parameters which are either measured or estimated. Among estimated parameters, is the weight transfer from the implement to the tractor, a value which has not, up to now, been measured for implements carried on the three point linkage. A project has thus been set up with the aim of measuing drawbar pull and weight transfer, in order to check results obtained from the CEEMAT measuring system. The method chosen is one of direct measurement of the forces exerted by the implement on its hitch pins. Sensors, based on the principle of shearing gauges, were used mounted inside conventional hitch pins : one-way in the top link, and two-way in each lower link. The latter are prototypes especially ordered for the project. The trials were stopped when it was noticed that the readings of two-way gauges were unstable. It has been deduced from our theoretical study that simultaneous measurement of horizontal and vertical components of forces in the lower links is not necessary. It is thus recommended to utilize one-way sensors, which are more reliable, to detrmine alternately drawbar pull and weight transfer. | |
