Abstract (AB)The free amino-acids occurring in leaf laminae and cane-juice have been studied. The amino-acid picture of leaf laminae is complex, but alanine is shown to account for one half of the total, whilst arginine has been shown to be depressed by nitrogenous fertilization. Pipecolic acid, methionine and tryptophan occur in juice as does a substance resembling 4-hydroxy-pipecolic acid; the presence of arginine is confirmed.
