Abstract (AB)The effects of two foliar fertilizers, Phostrogen and Hypervert, containing NPK and small amounts of other elements were evaluated on cooking tomato var. MST 32/1 under field contidions. The trial was carried out at the University Farm at Réduit. The experiment consisted of 6 treatments, fitted into a 2x3 factorial with 4 replicates. Factor A was the soil fertilizers and Factor B, the foliar fertilizers. The soil fertilizers were applied at two rates: the recommended rate (RR), which consisted of a basal dressing of 0.4 t/ha of 13:13:20:2 and a topdressing of 0.15 t /ha of Calcium Ammonium Nitrate; and half of the recommended rate (1/2 RR). Two commercially available foliar fertilizers, Phostrogen and Hypervert were used. A total of five foliar fertilizer applications were made during the crop cycle. The foliar spraying started at the 5-leaf stage and was done on a weekly basis up to the fruit setting stage in the first truss. Leaf NPK content was determined one week after the last spray. Data was collected on the time taken to 50 percent flowering, number of trusses bearing flowers per plant, number of flowers per plant, percenage fruit set, number of fruits, early and total yields. The foliar fertilizers had no significant effect on any of the parameters measured. Therefore, their use on tomato is not recommended in soils where fertility is adequate.
