Abstract (AB)Sugar cane breeding activities generate an impressive amount of data, which should be processed efficiently to ease decision-making and for retrieval of information. Many sugar cane breeding organizations have their own database management systems, which have evolved with the acquisition of modern computing systems with enhanced capabilities. This presentation reviews the progress achieved in the use of information technology in the MSIRI sugar cane breeding programme and the development of the a computerized information management system, the PBMIS, with emphasis on the germplasm and hybridisation components.
