Abstract (AB)The potential offered by sugarcane by-products in animal feeding with regards to their availability and composition is discussed, attention being drawn to their limitations in the light of present knowledge. The main problems arising in the use of by-products are due to the low contents of protein and glucose precursors, and in the case of bagasse and cane tops to a high fibre content. The need for adequate supplementation has been shown and suggestions made for the local production of supplements.
