Abstract (AB)	Various congresses and meetings have broached the concept of the Indian Ocean as a distinct historical unit. One of the latest disciplines to support such a concept is marine archaeology. A synthesis of events connected with the g radual exploration of the routes of the diasporas across the Ocean is presented.
