Abstract (AB)The new and cheaper ripener Polado has been tested in small and industrial scale trials. Rates of product ranging from 0.25 to 0.55 kg a.i. per hectare increased sucrose content and juice purity significantly in all trials with varieties S17, M13/56 and M93/48. The effect on growth at lower rates of the product is not marked. The results are discussed in terms of optimum time of application and harvest.
