Abstract (AB)Insoluble solids in mixed juice inflate its mass, lead to over-estimation of undetermined loss in sucrose recovery and under-estimation of the boiling house recovery. If insoluble solids content in mixed juice is accurately estimated, the true masses of Brix, pol and sucrose can be calculated by using a multiplication factor of (100 percent insoluble solids)/100. A viable, automatic and continuous sampling device is therefdore essential to ensure representative samples of mixed juice for analysis of insoluble solids. Laboratory tests have shown that sequential samplers give reproducible and reliable results. Subsequent factory trials have proved that they are robust enough to withstand industrial conditions. The light, portable model of the sequential sampler is recommended for the sampling of mixed juice for insoluble solids analysis.
